Closing the Circle: Original Lyrics
By the Earth, by all fleshly beings
By the Water, and all creatures that drink from her
By the Fire, and the shining spirits of the Bright Ones
By the Breath that gives all Life.
By Earth, by Water, by Fire and by Air
Bright Ones, depart in peace from this place.
General information
Closing the Circle is the final movement of the Wheel of the Year song cycle. It was originally published as part of the full cycle in 2004, and subsequently released as an individual work, after several requests, in 2010.
The work is based on a genuine Pagan circle closing ceremony, and can be used for ritual purposes, as well as within the content of the Wheel of the Year performance piece, or as a separate performance piece by itself.
The various voice parts can be allocated as required; as is the case with many of the Wheel of the Year movements, the score provides a rough guide only and performers can feel free to ad lib as they wish.
Leanne Daharja Veitch's works have been described as "magical", delving into the "very essence of that which makes music great".
